THE WARREN AREA

The land for the Warren community was deeded to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1785 by the Seneca Indians at the treaty of Fort Stanwix.

Warren was named after General Joseph Warren, a hero in America's War of Independence. Located about 150 north of Pittsburgh, PA; the Warren area is rich in natural resources. Located in the heart of what is now the Allegheny National Forest, lumbering was one of the first industries established in Warren. Cut lumber was bound into rafts and floated down the Allegheny River to areas like Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and at far south as New Orleans

When oil was discovered by Edwin L. Drake in Titusville, PA (about 40 miles from Warren city), a boom in the areas population happened. To support the growing oil industry, companies such as Fairchild & Betts Founders and Machinists (1901 - now called Betts Machine Company), United Refining Company (1902), The New Process Company (1910 - now called Blair Industries), National Forge Company (1915),  and National Fuel Gas Company (1902).

Today, visitors to Warren thrive on the recreational interests of the area. The Allegheny National Forest serves the community with hiking and camping, fishing and water activities, as well as winter skiing and snow mobiling. Situated between the Kinzua and Tionesta dams, these reservoirs offer both flood control and great fishing and recreational opportunities (the Pennsylvania State Fishing Tournament is held every year in Tidioute, PA ... just south of Warren.)

Throughout the summer and into the fall  Warren's communities host various events, from celebrations honoring the areas traditions, to local parades.
